“Virginia” — Cyanotype on Paper
24 x 32 inches
Original + Limited 8×10 Edition Available
Virginia is part of my Country Series, a body of work where I bring my West African lineage into conversation with my American South roots. This cyanotype blends images I photographed with fragments pulled from family photo albums, using them as a way to track the routes my family—and many Black families—traveled during the Great Migration.
The piece layers silhouettes, archival textures, and hand-applied chemistry to create a visual field that feels both historical and immediate. Each mark is informed by logged oral histories—stories passed down across states, houses, and generations—translating memory into a material language of light, gesture, and time.
This is an original 24 × 32 inch cyanotype on paper, created through a fully analog process.
A limited run of 8×10 prints is also available.
